Behind every good nonprofit or volunteer organization is a dedicated board — a group of volunteers working to make sure that, among other things, the ship still floats, has wind in its sails, and is moving in the right direction.
The compensation for this work is usually just the camaraderie of fellow board members and the satisfaction of seeing a mission become reality. When someone new comes into the fold, or a goal is achieved (in our case, when a program is well attended or creates connections with others in our field), that’s where I’ve found the real meaning of this volunteer work. Serving on this board has introduced me to some generous, talented people, and it’s made me a better communicator along the way.
Volunteer boards don’t require much to succeed. Their most valuable resource is good people who are willing to share their time and talents.
PRSA WNC is led by one such board. Back in July, I challenged you to get involved, and now is the time to step up. We are currently building a slate of nominees to serve on the board and take the rudder of the ship. There are a variety of roles to fill, and terms are only one year. You can read more about our current board and the board positions on our website. While you’re there, consider whether you could see yourself in one of these roles.
If you’re interested, or want to nominate a colleague, contact Scott Eldredge, chair of our nominating committee. As a past president, he’d be glad to answer questions, too.
The crew for our ship is being decided now, and we need good leadership. We’re always looking for fresh ideas and new points of view. Perhaps yours is the one we’ve been missing.
